Setting up your Star MC Printer for Platopus Retail
Overview
Setting up your Star MC series Printer is straightforward, but there are a few steps to complete.
- Plug in in the printer and connect it to the network
- Connect to the printer using a phone
- Register the printer with Platopus Retail
- Assign the printer to a location, area and give it a name.
- Adjust the printer's settings for your paper/labels
Before you begin ...
You may have worked with printers previously where the printer was connected to an iPad, PC or Android Tablet to print, with Platopus Retail, the printer connects directly to the Platopus servers - you don't need to use any other devices!
Plug in in the printer and connect it to the network
Unpack your printer and connect it to the mains using the power adapter and connect it to the internet using a network cable.
Switch on the printer and it will start-up and hopefully illuminate the green network icon.
Connect to the printer using a phone
We suggest using the Star Quick Setup Utility on an Android Phone or iPhone.

Download the utility, make sure you are connected to the same network as the printer and launch the app.
You should be asked to select a printer, you may also need to give your device permission to scan the network and find devices:
One you have selected the printer, you may proceed with setup.
Register the printer with Platopus Retail
From the menu select Printer Settings and then Star CloudPRNT Settings.
You may be asked for a username/password for 'Web Configuration' the out of the box defaults are as follows:
Username: root
Password: public
You will be asked to change the password. Change it to something easy to remember - such as 'platopus' - make sure you make a note if you are using a secure password as the device will need to be factory reset if you forget it.
Once you have reached the CloudPRNT Settings screen simply turn on CloudPRINT, enter the Platopus URL and set the timeout to 5:
The Platopus CloudPRNT URL is: https://api.platopusretail.com/print/poll
There is no need to set the User Name and Password.
There is no need to set the User Name and Password.
Click Apply when you have set the above.
